As a parent, you want to know your child is somewhere safe, engaged, and growing — not just waiting for you to get home. BGCW fills those hours with structure, support, and the kind of activities that actually matter: homework help, friendships, mentors, and programs that build real skills.
We offer three ways to plug in: school-year programs that run every weekday afternoon, summer programs that keep kids learning and active during the break, and sports and enrichment activities that round out the whole experience. Here's what each one looks like.
Every weekday, after school
From the moment school lets out through the early evening, BGCW is there. Our school-year programs give your child a structured, supportive place to land every afternoon — at the Main Clubhouse or directly on their school campus through our ASES program.
What your child gets every day:
- Homework Help — A dedicated time to get assignments done with support from staff, so homework doesn't follow you home at night.
- Academic Tutoring — One-on-one and small group support for kids who need a little extra help staying on track.
- Power Hour — Structured daily learning that builds the independent study habits kids need to succeed in school long-term.
- STEM & Technology — Hands-on projects through Club Tech, including web design, digital photography, filmmaking, and more.
- Fine Arts & Music — Drawing, painting, sculpture, guitar, percussion, and string instruments for kids ages 6–18.
- Leadership Programs — Torch Club (ages 11–13), Keystone Club (ages 14– 18), and Leaders-In-Training (ages 13–17) for teens ready to take on more responsibility.
On-campus option:
Our ASES (After School Education and Safety) program operates directly at schools in the Whittier City and East Whittier City School Districts — so your child doesn't have to go anywhere. The Club comes to them.
Keep the momentum going all summer long.
Summer doesn't have to mean three months of screen time and disrupted routines. BGCW runs full programming through the summer — keeping your child active, engaged, and learning while school is out.
What your child gets this summer:
- Summer Brain Gain — Our interactive program designed specifically to prevent summer learning loss. Kids come back to school in the fall sharper than when they left.
- Academic Support — Homework help and tutoring continue all summer for kids who want to get ahead or need to catch up.
- STEM Exploration — Hands-on projects, digital arts, and tech programs that make learning feel like anything but school.
- Arts & Creative Programs — Visual art, music, and creative expression activities running all summer.
- Sports & Recreation — Daily physical activity, team games, and healthy-habits programming to keep kids moving.
- College Bound (for high schoolers) — Summer is prime time for SAT prep, campus tours, and college application work. Our College Bound team is active year-round.
More than academics. The whole child.
We believe kids grow in all directions — not just in the classroom. Our sports and enrichment programs give children and teens the chance to discover what they're good at, build confidence, and develop habits that last well beyond their time at the Club.
Sports Programs:
- ALL STARS — Youth leagues in football, basketball, and cheerleading that teach character and teamwork alongside athletic skills. Coaches are trained and certified Club staff and volunteers.
- Triple Play (ages 6–18) — A full wellness initiative covering daily fitness (Body), nutrition and healthy habits (Mind), and social-emotional skills (Soul).
- Pickleball — A new and growing program at BGCW for members who want to try something different.
Enrichment Programs:
- Smart Chef (grades K–12) — 40 hours of hands-on cooking and nutrition workshops. Kids learn meal planning, food safety, and how to make healthy choices for themselves.
- Smart Girls — A small-group program for girls that covers self-image, fitness, conflict resolution, and healthy decision-making. Supported by Soroptimist International of Whittier.
- Passport to Manhood (ages 8–17) — 14 structured sessions for boys focused on responsibility, respect, and what it means to grow up well.
- Fine Arts & Music — Drawing, painting, sculpture, guitar, and percussion for all ages and skill levels.
- Fifth Dimension — A one-of-a-kind learning program run in partnership with Whittier College, where college student mentors guide kids through educational games and problem-solving challenges.
